Tonight, is the first of the 2-night showcase of the Finnish band, Apocalyptica and Italian heavy hitters, Lacuna Coil at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver and they hit it with a vengeance. Hope you got a chance to see this sold out show, since this one will not soon be forgotten.  Both bands unique from one another in various ways, but suiting in the sense of visually entertaining live performances. Let's dig into each a little more, shall we?

LACUNA COIL hits the stage first, and with all this lockdown/covid stuff happening, they sure made it worth the wait. In all honesty, this is my first experience seeing them, and I will tell you right now, this band  I will be catching every time they come to town. Don't know why I have missed them, but what an amazing performance. The vocals were spot on, clear and crisp, and the dual vocals make for an interesting showcase, both have such great voices and they work so well together,  the guitars did a fantastic job of their riffages. The drumming, well the heartbeat of the band was right on target. By looking around the crowded venue, there were a lot of fans for them there tonight. I couldn't tell you the names of the songs, but every song they played was a thrill to listen to, it was just so enjoyable. Loved how they moved around the stage so everyone in the room got a chance to see and enjoy each of the band members. They sure looked like they were enjoying being up on stage tonight, and when you are enjoying it, it resinates out to the crowd, who then it goes back to the band. All in all this was an extremely talented band that has it all together, who gives 150% to their fans (and reviewer).  They also have a new album "Black Anima", which you really should check out, I know I will be.

Headliner APOCALYPTICA  symphonic metal band, forming in 1993, hits the stage to cheering and clapping. This is what people have been waiting for. Me too actually as it has been a long time since I have seen them live. There is always two shows when they hit Vancouver, that is just how popular they have become, who would have thought three cello players, in the world of heavy music, would have reached such amazing success, well they did, and you have to see them to believe what they can do. They also enjoy being up on stage, so many smiles, with such energy, I am still in awe while writing this. Tonight, we had a surprise, a guest vocalist Franky Perez, who entered on stage once in awhile to really kick it up. They played a variety of songs, one that I particularly liked was "I'll Get Through It", a newer song, but it really had an impact, but most of their songs do. Especially when they do a song that is Metallicas ("Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek and Destroy"), and you have the crowd singing along. Nothing better. The crowd had really filled up the floor and the balcony for them, but you can understand it when you hear/see them play. Such amazing talent, and so well executed.  So many terrific songs played, not going to spoil it, you should just go check them out.

It is hard to get back into the swing of reviewing after such a long absence from it, and I still don't think I did this tour justice, because both bands excelled at what they do, pure perfection on both their parts. My face hurts this morning from all the smiling I did. This tour is going to be such a great memory for myself, and I am sure others too.

Thank you Lacuna Coil and Apocalyptica for making Vancouver one of your stops on this tour., not only for one night, but two! An extra bonus for us all, and we thank you for it.
