Well tonight at the SOLD OUT show, Sep 25th at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver, BC, I got to watch/listen to two bands that I hadn't really heard of before, so I was looking forward to it.

Openers were trio DANCE WITH THE DEAD out of Orange County, California, not sure what genre I would put them in, but more like a disco, electronic style, with some really annoying strobe lights. This trio played well, had an excellent beat, (no singer), but the lights kind of ruined it for me. They kept hitting my eyes, so didn't really want to watch them, so just listened. They did a great show, an hour long, and the crowd went nuts for these guys, the venue was full, on the floor, chairs, and the walkway, stuffed like sardines. That is what it is all about, people enjoying.

Now the band I had been waiting for is BEAST IN BLACK, a Finnish power metal band, who knows how to put it all together to create songs that has everyones attention. I think I enjoyed it so much because it was fun, everyone up there smiling, having fun with each other, and just a great beat with each musician excelling in what they do. They played an array of songs that had me thrilled that I got to see them live, they just give so much to the fans. The lighting was spectacular, sound was kick ass, especially from the back of the room. I thought there was only the 5 guys, but for one song a gal came out, I heard it was their manager, not sure though, but came out with a mask and played the keytar, whomever she was, she added a special touch to the night.  In case you want to know who is in the band, here you go . . Kasperi Heikkinen - guitars, Mate Molnar - bass, Yannis Papadopoulos - vocals, Anton Kabanen - band founder/guitars, Atte Palokangas - drums. Trust me, they are not to be missed. Beast in Black is superb, sensational, exceptional, fantastic, out of this world, I think you get it. Not often I find a band that just can fulfill my expectations of a show, presence on stage, sound and lighting. Way more than satisfactory, thank you so much. Perfect power metal right here.
