On the tail end of the tour, Heilung bring their one of a kind ceremony to The Greek in Los Angeles, CA.  I immediately knew that I was in the right place when you saw a lot of the concert goers dressed in Viking like attire and faces painted with tribal symbols. Talk about a one of a kind experience that I can guarantee that you have never been to. From the beautiful costumes, stage setup and archaic instruments it makes you feel as if you transported back to prehistoric Northern Europe. Heilung is one part folk music and one part visuals. Combining the two, help elevate this amplified history to the next level. From the time that the ceremony began, it felt as if everyone were in a trance and locked in as band members began to spread the burning sage across the stage.

Faust and Franz adorned with headresses made out antlers, feathers and leaves all around. Hearing the throat singing backed by bells, drums and various other ancient instruments made for something so different but yet engaging. Bringing out the shield and spear armed warriors made you feel as if you were about to go into battle. By this point you already knew what to expect so it was time to just let go and let yourself become part of the ritual rather than just a spectator. The way that Heilung took charge of the people was something you dont see often especially when you couldnt hear a word from anyone in the crowd.

Heilung is German for “ Healing “ which makes sense when you feel the beating of the drums and hear the chanting, you know that something spiritual and otherworldly was taking place. Just as in the beginning of the ceremony, the stage was washed with sage to close the ceremony. A spiritual cleansing had just taken place since you can feel the theater that much lighter. Not only is Heilung a musical treat but also a visual one. Definitely a journey that you would want to embark on when they come to a venue near you .
