I PREVAIL
EXCLUSIVE

Article By: Ruben Mosqueda

I Prevail is a melodic metalcore act originally from Southfield, Michigan. The band gained momentum and attention from their ‘hard’ take on Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" as a single in 2014. The tune was so popular that it earned the single platinum certification in the United States.  That’s almost unheard of for a rock band, much less for a band on the heavier side.  I Prevail has released three studio albums to date [2016] ‘Lifelines,’ [2019] ‘Trauma,’ and their latest ‘True Power’; just released on August 19th, 2022. Make no mistake I Prevail have done well with their original work, tunes like “Breaking Down,” and “Hurricane” have got their fair share of airplay and currently “Body Bag” is performing very well for them. In 2019 I Prevail were nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Metal Performance’ for “Bow Down.” In the same year, their album ‘Trauma’ was also nominated for ‘Best Rock Album’. Not too shabby, huh? “We performed “Body Bag” in Australia and it was fun to do live, that will be staying in the set. Then there’s “Fear In Letting Go” and a few of these other songs that we’ve been rehearsing while getting ready for the tour.  It’s fun to see these songs come to life and then get a chance to perform them. It’s exciting to know that we’ll be playing a lot of these songs in the set for quite a long time,” says singer Eric Vanlerbleghe.

Metal Titans caught up with Eric Vanlerbleghe on August 18th, 2022, before the release of ‘True Power.’  “When we realized that the Pandemic wasn’t going to be a short-lived thing, we started writing this record.” That record that Vanlerbleghe is referring to of course is ‘True Power.’ I Prevail are set to embark on what is their most ambitious North American tour to date. Vanlerbleghe fills us in about their anticipated tour “The upcoming tour will be hefty compared to the last two U.S. runs that we’ve done. We’ve got a 10-day break between both legs. This tour will be almost three months long.”

‘True Power’ is a product of the pandemic “I think we made the best of the time we had to make this record. I think because of that we made a great record with some of the best songs that this band has recorded,” says the singer.  Vanlerbleghe and his bandmates were caught in the middle of the early stage of the pandemic  “We were in Europe when the pandemic hit. We were in the middle of a 6-week tour. We were about the half-way point and we found out that they were going to close borders later that week. We had like three days to get back home,” he continues “We had finished a show and it was like 3 o’clock in the morning when we started trying to book flights before the whole world shut down.” Vanlerbleghe goes on to say “It was wild. After two months we then realized that this wasn’t going to be a short-term thing. I tried to approach the downtime due to COVID on the bright side of things. It was good to be at home and spend time with family and loved ones, but now I’m just ready to get out there and perform,” he adds, “I’m really excited about this tour. I think we’ll be doing a bigger and better show for the fans than the last time.” One thing is for sure, Vanlerbleghe and the rest of I Prevail are stoked to be hitting the road for an extensive high-profile tour and they’re armed with a ‘potent’ and solid record. Expect bigger and better things for I Prevail, they’ve gotten better with time and this lengthy tour with Pierce The Veil, Fit For A King and Your Truly [Leg 1] and Stand Atlantic [Leg 2], they’re sure to pick up new fans along the way at each stop.
