The Detroit based post-punk band Protomartyr makes a stop in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom. After not being in Los Angeles since before the pandemic, they delivered a set filled with nothing but hits from “ Pontiac 87” to “ Maidenhead”.  With Los Angeles locals Immortal Nightbody, a two piece rap group mixed with an 80’s synth wave sound that had the audience captivated and wanting more from the group. With the crowd packed in like sardines, Protomartyr needs no introduction with their extensive discography and unique sound that they developed over the past decade. Joe stating that they are going to start the night off with some new tracks to get them out of the way in order to get to the cataloged hits that everyone knows them for. Joe Casey has a vocal delivery like no other with a stage presence that might seem tame but trust me that is not the case. Even though he might not be jumping around the stage like a madman there is something to say about his slow movements that lead to an engaging and powerful performance that compliments Protomartyr’s sound beautifully.

I would highly recommend taking a deep dive into the music of Protomartyr if you have not before because you will not be disappointed especially if you are a fan of post-punk. With their new record “ Formal Growth In The Desert “ out in June, they are touring the US this Spring and Summer, so I suggest you make your way out to a show to check them out live
