SINIRA EXCLUSIVE

Welcome to MetalTitans, we are here today with Knell of SINIRA, a melodic Black Metal band, in which he does all the insturments and the vocals for. He is strongly inspired by acts such as Dissection, Dawn, Unanimated, Vinterland and Sacramentum. Let's delve in and find out more.

Interview By: Metal Mom

MT: How old were you when you first knew that you wanted to be a musician?

Knell: I was about 11 years old when I first heard Back in Black by AC/DC. That was the turning point for me when I fell in love with music and knew it was my dream to do that.

MT: What made you decide to do this project on your own?

Knell: I worked in a band with a few friends and it seemed like we never went anywhere. There was too much conflict in where we wanted our sound to go. So I decided to give it a shot by myself. But much love to those guys!

MT: You have some bands that inspired you, but why those one over all the choices out there?

Knell: It’s one thing to play catchy riffs, but it’s another thing to create an atmosphere with music and my inspiration bands did exactly that.

MT: Was there someone who made you stop and think this is just what I need to do?

Knell: No, not really. I was always someone who knew what I wanted and just went for it.

MT: You have a new album "The Everlorn" about to be released Feb 26 through Northern Silence Productions,  how do you come up with new riffs, drum blasts, and lyrics, as you have had 3 previous releases?

Knell: This time I just really sat down and tried to make the best album I could at the time while attempting to create the atmosphere of my inspirations.

MT: How did you come up with the name The Everlorn?

Knell: It really just came to me. The best things in life happen when you least expect it. A lot of self reflection was the key.

MT: In fact how did you come to call yourself SINIRA?

Knell: I’m half Filipino and Sinira means “torn apart” in Tagalog.

MT: You have 8 tracks on the album, do you have a favourite among them?

1. Where Starlight Does Not Shine
2. Gardens Of Pestilence
3. The Everlorn
4. Souls Of The Flame
5. Tear Ladened Skies
6. Our Final Nightfall
7. Dawnless Twilight
8. Omega XI

Knell: They are all my favorite but the one that stands out the most has to be “Our Final Nightfall.”

MT: Creating new music, and playing all the instruments, being the vocalist, must take up most of your days and then some, do you get a great reception from your music?

Knell: So creating music is a part time thing for me. I’m currently in school full time and I also work full time as an EMT. So finding time to do anything is hard. It’s also the reason why it takes me so long to do these interviews. Finding time to balance everything in my life is hard. But the amazing reception I get from my music makes it all worth it. My fans are incredibly supportive. They’ve been there since day 1 and I never would’ve thought that my music would get the reception that it has gotten. So thank you everyone.

MT: Where do your ideas come from to write the lyrics?

Knell: My inspiration for my lyrics comes from Dissection. But overall, I did a lot of self reflection and that came into play in so much of my project.

MT: I guess it also means you can't do tours if you are the only one who does it all? Or have you done shows and have others come in, learn it then go out and promote your work?

Knell: I suppose if I wanted to do live shows, I certainly could. I have friends and know other musicians who would be willing to learn my songs and play with me. I actually had a live show planned right before Covid started. Obviously it was cancelled.

MT: What is something you would like to accomplish as SINIRA?

Knell: I already have. I created music that I personally would listen to. That’s all I wanted. The attention is an aftereffect. It’s not something I was striving for, but it’s welcomed all the same.

MT: How are things for you during this Covid-19?

Knell: Like I answered in a previous question, work and school is all I’ve been doing. Things are going like you would expect. Nothing any different from others.

MT: Tell us something about SINIRA that we don't know . . .

Knell: There’s no secret sauce, guys. I’m pretty open about my experience and my music.

MT: What music do you listen to, that people would think odd because of your own sound?

Knell: Shoegaze, for sure. It helps me mellow out.

MT: Is there anything you would like to add to this interview that I might have missed asking?

Knell: Thanks for your patience and working with me through these trying times.

Thank you for taking the time to do this interview, and we wish you much success with your new album "The Everlorn".
