Who would have thought that classic could be transformed into such an outstanding sound. Back in 1993, it all started with covering Metallica songs, and doing it to perfection. They were also among the best covers I have heard. Their second album saw them cover a few others, like Faith No More, Pantera, with the addition of some songs written by Toppinen himself. What you will find is a twist , something that exceeds all expectations.

You know that Apocalyptica has talent or you would not find Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Ville Valo (HIM) joining in on their albums. Lately you will also hear the talents of Adam Gontier (ex Three Days Grace), Josephy Duplantier (Gojira) and Doug Robb (Hoobastank) to name a few who have added their touch to the masterpieces of Apocalyptica.  On Shadowmaker their 8th album, the vocals are done by Franky Perez, and what a perfect addition to this album, he is capable of so many different ranges, and each meshing into every song. Distinctive vocals, and they add so much to this album.

"Shadowmaker" is a far cry from their beginnings, always great to see a band grow as they have. They have made each of the songs their own, something that is unique, nothing like you have heard before. So refreshing. I will tell you now, that this was actually a hard review to do, I would select a song, and listen while trying to write this, it wasn't possible, the talent behind Apocalyptica was overwhelming, I just couldn't write a thing down, I just wanted to keep listening over and over to each and every song. Now doesn't that say something about this album.

It's astonishing how classical is incorporated into an orchestra and symphonic melody balanced to perfection. It's exclusive, something so different capturing your attention and not letting go, giving the fans so much. That classical background has me hooked, it could not be done any better, intertwined with just so much detail. There is no doubt in my mind that everything here was well thought out and executed to leave an impact. Truthfully, I am speechless.  I think I can safely say this is Apocalyptica's most enthusiastic, purposeful venture yet. This album is going to see them gain more followers, amazed at what they hear, but fans from all walks of genres. They have been at this now for 22 years, and you couldn't last this long without having the talent, the impressive musicianship and standing out above others with the incredible sound they create.

Finely weaved complexity inspired with an energy as tight as their horsehair bows. Filled with killer choruses, intense dark overtones and some good pedal to the metal speed. You will find this and much more on “Shadowmaker”.
