CHICKENFOOT: DIFFERENT DEVIL TOUR 2012

http://www.metaltitans.com/2012-concert-pics/different-devil-tour/Succeeding as a "supergroup" isn't easy despite the generally overwhelming talent, most fail and never return to see the light of day. That said, in assembling Chickenfoot, I think Van Halen fans would agree that Sammy has succeeded in building a solid band around vocals and Satriani's guitar virtuosity where fellow ex-Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth failed with Steve Vai.
It is great to hear Sammy still has an unbelievable rock and roll voice at the age of 64. As Sammy said last night, to the QE Theater fans "We just wanted to record some songs that don't sound like the same crap you've been listening to for 20 years”. Exactly! With a fresh sound and coming off the release of Chickenfoot 3, Joe was great on the guitar. Michael played a great bass even though he seemed to have to much sauce but didn’t effect his bass picking skills, and Kenny Aronoff filling in for Chad Smith was thunderous and spell bounding to most of the spectators is how hard he plays his drums.
I have been a Satriani fan for quite sometime and without a doubt, he is a guitar maestro as he bends one string to tapping another, to sliding another all simultaneously while moving up and down the fret was really a mean feat to achieve. It is difficult to understand how he gets the sounds out of the guitar and he is extremely talented and has vast knowledge in the field of music.
While the set consisted of only fourteen songs, the band jammed on every song, featuring many blazing solos from Satriani. The band and the audience seemed to feed off each other’s energy as each witnessed a great night of rock music! For those who have seen them before, this has been a long time coming. There’s a quality they possess – probably the quality of being, well, pretty damn good.
