May 28th 2012 is when this tour hit Vancouver, the show was downtown at the Venue, a much better place to have a metal show. But what surprised me the most, where were all the fans, I figured this show would be packed, even when the headliner hit the stage, it was not a full house, nor did the floor fill up. Was kind of embarrassing for a large city that have lots of metal people, and they couldn’t fill this venue up.

Anyway, the first band up, one that I have always enjoyed to the fullest is VITAL REMAINS, they are from Rhode Island, USA and have been around since 1988. So there has been lots of time to nail their black death metal sound down. They played an amazing set, and because there was only 3 bands, we were able to enjoy some extreme metal. They incorporate so much variety into their sets, evil, brutal, melody, yes even melody, making it a real head banging kind of experience. Guitar solos were executed with amazing talent, bass thundered through your chest, drums blasted in your ears, and vocals were brutally savage. What more could you want. Well more of course. This is extreme metal and talent at its best.

WARBRINGER, who are out of California are up next. Yes, everyone enjoyed them, but I have seen them so many times with different shows in the last little while, I think I am Warbringered out. Oh don’t get me wrong, they still played a great set, the crowd enjoyed and moshed to the very last song, and I was still nodding my head , tapping my foot along with their music. They have invented their own distinct sound. Its got the beat to follow along with. But the important thing was that they played well and the crowd enjoyed them. That’s what its all about .

DESTRUCTION, from Germany are the headliners tonight and who would have ever thought that just 3 guys could make a history for themselves in thrash. Make no mistake, they did, and did a bad ass job of it.Their sound, an old school thrash mixed with death metal, fast-picking, dominating thrash riffs combined with in-your-face songs and vocals proves that they have what it takes to set their feet firmly in the thrash world. For me, well most of you know I am not a thrash person at all, and its not often I come across a band that makes me take note…but this band has done just that. They have injected their own style of thrash, with some, I want to say melodic background, but not the right word for thrash. You cant deny this trio has their music perfected, and it shows when they are on stage. Aggressive, brutal, relentless and full of energy, it leaves you with a high , and not a drug induced one either.

Three bands, all played their sets extremely well, it was a great tour. Just wish more had been there to witness the 30th Anniversary Tour.
