GOZU EXCLUSIVE

Welcome to Metaltitans, Guardians of Music Entertainment, we are here today with Gaff and Doug of Rock Metallers Gozu, who are about to drop their album on April 13th through Black Light Media/Metal Blade Records.

1. Tell us how you came up with the name “Equilibrium” for the name of the album?

Gaff-It was a name that was fitting at the time, finding a nice balance in music and life.

2. What we can expect to hear from your new album compared to the 2016 Revival?

It is a different vibe, bigger and more melodic sound. Guitars pumping, and I think the best solos Doug has ever played.

3. Both Marc “Gaff” and Doug founded the band, how do you make the decision in which way you want to take your music?

Gaff- we enjoy evolving and making each album different. The more you play the more you form a cohesive bond. The 4 of us are sounding the best we ever have. It is a well-oiled machine much like Burt Reynolds had the team rolling in Smokey and the Bandit.

4. Where did the inspiration come from to write the lyrics?

Gaff- The lyrics are about my dad passing away in June. It was really the only way I could grieve. I had many emotions ripping through my membrane and they needed to be ousted so I could continue simply doing day to day things. It was the easiest album I have ever written as it wrote itself. The songs were finished and remained finished.

5. Do you have a favourite song on the album? Maybe even just one that you enjoy playing more than the others?

Gaff- I like them all to be honest, as they are so fresh that they will all take on a life of their own.

6. This is the first full length featuring Mike Hubbard (drummer), and Joseph Grotto (bassist), how did these two come to be in Gozu?

Gaff- They actually played on Revival and have been in the band now for a bit. They are both amazing players and fit in quite easily and quickly.

7. How excited are you for this album to come out?

Gaff- Very excited. It is our best to date I think.

8. Did it take a long time to pull it all together, and did you have any issues while recording/mixing?

Gaff- Once the songs got going they worked themselves out. The studio time went well. As with anything it takes a bit the engine running but once you do, get on your bad motor scooter and ride.

9. What is the hardest part about putting the album together?

Gaff- Not over analyzing everything you do. I do that in over everything and it can be good, however, also a horror show. It is knowing when to give yourself a break I feel is the key.

10. Do you think of what your fans might like, or you put it together because it is how you like it?

Gaff- It is what we like. If we can’t get into it then no use of doing it. You hope that what you do shines through and it is a blessing if people sink their teeth into and get off on it. People will like or not. You try and put out an honest album that is relatable and make you go 80 in a 30-mph zone.

11. Chris Smith did the artwork, how did you come up with the idea for the cover, was it something you suggested, or Chris came up with an idea?

Gaff- We give him thoughts and he literally comes up with ideas in a few hours. He is so talented it is unbelievable the work he does.

12. You have been around for a little while now, did you expect to still be doing this in 2018?

Gaff- Playing music, I am just happy I can stand up straight at this time in my life.

13. Do you have any plans to tour once the album is released?

Gaff- We are actually figuring out now the next logical step.

14. For you what is the best thing about being in Gozu?

I get off on playing with the other 3. I love being able to travel and play music that people are into. I don’t take anything for granted so being able to plug in and get loud is a blessing.

15. When you aren’t doing your own band work, what kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Gaff- I enjoy the Allman Bros, The Band, Jeff Buckley, Traffic.

16. Any advice for upcoming teens wanting to put a band together?

Gaff- Have fun, turn up loud and play with people you get along with. Write songs you enjoy, get off on it.

17. Is there anything you want to add to this interview?

Gaff- Thanks for taking the time and again Thanks to Metal Blade/Blacklight Media, Dean Baltulonis, Chris Goosman. Everyone for taking a chance.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview. Metaltitans wishes you much success with your new album “Equilibrium”.
