HEX EXCLUSIVE

The band HEX recently sat down, and conducted a written interview with us here at MetalTitans. Forming just about a year ago this month, and still being a newer band to the chaotic realms of the metal industry, we spoke to the band a little about how they came to be, and what has brought them to where they are today. To learn more about HEX…Read this exclusive below !!!!!

Welcome to MetalTitans, Guardians of Metal entertainment, worldwide, we are here with HEX for an exclusive interview. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with us.

First, there isn’t much information on your band, so lets talk about some basic things. What year did you form ?

Hex was formed in October 2011, so we haven’t been around for that long actually. The writing of the songs has been a longer process since Jonas Hygren (vocals) wrote the songs some time ago and has been working quite hard with that. But we formed the band and started to rehearse the songs in October.

2. How did you all come together to form HEX ?

I was asked to join the band Snakestate that was the band of Jerker Johansson (bass) and Jonas. We did one rehearsal but decided to start the band as a completely new one instead of going on as Snakestate. So it was done. We then asked Jörgen Svärd to join in as the lead guitarist and it worked out even better than we could imagine just at the first rehearsal! After five months we decided to add another guitar to the ranks to make the live appearances more powerful, but we had no one in mind that could fit right into the band, so Jerker was picking up the guitar, and we asked a friend of mine, Timo Hagström, that was playing in the death metal band Chaos Ex Nihilo with me in 2010, to join as our bass player. Timo is also some kind of half-deranged person, so he fitted right into the band as a glove!

3. What made you pick the name HEX ?

We tried out a bunch of names but Hex was the name that fitted best to the band and to the lyrics and concept we wanted. And Jerker made one hell of a cool logo and we could not be more satisfied than this with both logo and name, I guess :)

4. What would you call your style of music, metal, rock ? Can you put it into a genre ?

We discussed it quite a lot in the beginning but we can’t actually put it into just one genre…and I don’t actually care a lot about it, I don’t think it is that important to put it into some category, it is better if people listen and just decide for themselves if they like it or not. But I would say it is metal as a base, at least as a foundation of the music. On top of it there are some industrial elements. When asked people that listen to it, if they could compare the style, not the songs, most people mention bands such as Rob Zombie, Ministry, White Zombie, Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails to mention a few.

5. What made you choose to play the type of music you play ?

I heard the songs from the latest recordings of Snakestate and I was stunned by it! I really liked the style. I thought it would be really nice playing a completely new and different style compared of playing black metal the latest 20 years. So the music style of Hex is some kind of natural progress of the songs that Jonas wrote in the past. It is nothing we have chosen, it is just how it is, and we all really enjoying it!

6. Who writes your lyrics for the band ?

Jonas writes all lyrics, at least for the songs already recorded. Maybe we will write both music and lyrics together for some songs for the next recording.

7. I recently heard your song “Voodoo Girl”, it was amazing, do you think in the near future you will put out an EP ? You really should.

Thank you! Nice to hear! We will for sure send the promo to some labels and see what they can offer us. Hopefully some good label can give us some suitable proposal to release the songs already recorded as a CD.

8. So you have any plans to maybe play a show somewhere in your home town, or someplace ?

Yes, we are right now discussing some shows both in Sweden and in Germany to start off with. Hopefully we can do some gigs during the coming summer. We are open for suggestions for any kind of gigs, but we don’t pay to play!

9. When you practice, how many hours do you work at it ?

For the most it is enough with just an hour and a half, going through the set list twice. But we also always have some wine, booze and beer in the kitchen of our rehearsal studio, so some times we can go on for many many hours ;)

10. Did any of you work in other bands before HEX ?

Absolutely… Jonas has been in WOE and as told before SNAKESTATE. Jerker has been in SNAKESTATE and many more. Jörgen is the guitarist of IRON WHORES. Timo has been in OPTHALAMIA and ABHOR (that later was renamed to ABRUPTUM) and I have been playing in LORD BELIAL and VASSAGO among others. We all have been in quite a bunch of bands, but more namedropping would not make any sense.

11. Is there anything you would like to say to people who are not aware of Hex, something you think they should know about you ?

If you haven’t heard the music of HEX, we have 3 songs uploaded on a link at our website, please check it out and leave your comments on our page at Facebook or ReverbNation. www.hexweb.se
