JUNE 3rd 2015

Welcome to METALTITANS, Guardians of Metal Entertainment Worldwide, we are here with Thomas ‘Juneor’ Andersson from Swedish band 'KAMCHATKA'. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with us.

  • Your style of music is greatly influenced by the late 60/70's blues and rock bands, is this something that you grew up with ?

-Thomas: I was born in 1975 so I didn’t grow up with that music in that perspective, I just started playing blues on the guitar as a seven year old boy and played with many different bands up until Kamchatka was formed back in 2002. The sound of Kamchatka happens to sound like what a lot of bands did back in the late 60/70’s, but for Kamchatka that’s just because of the combination of three players coming from different musical backgrounds. For us it’s 2015 and not 60’s or 70’s.

  • How well is your style received in Sweden ?

-Thomas: Well mainly we tour outside of Sweden, but we have plenty of listeners here, it’s just that Sweden is a small country which makes touring difficult.

  • What made you call your new release "Long Road Made of Gold" ? Don't you wish you could find a road like that?

-Thomas: “LONG ROAD” refers to the long road you take being a musician traveling around and playing. “MADE OF GOLD” is the reward which contains of music; music is the reward and the “GOLD”.

  • Who wrote the lyrics, and what was the inspiration behind them ?

- Thomas: I wrote the lyrics on the tunes that I wrote for this album: tracks 1,2,3,5,6,7 and track 10, and Per (bass) wrote the lyrics on the tunes that he made. I write about things that go on in my life and in my head, both good and bad.

  • Do you, yourself, have a favourite song on this album ? Why that one if you do?

-Thomas: My favorite track of the album is the first track “Take Me Back Home” because of the way it came out on the album. The original version was much more progressive and at least 2 minutes longer, but together with Per and Toby we made a cool arrangement on that one. Plus I dig the banjo intro.

  • Who created the artwork for the cover ?

-Thomas: Per Wiberg (bass and 2nd vox) has made all the Kamchatka artwork since our 1st album “Kamchatka” from 2005.

  • Did you give some ideas, or did the artist create his own and you approved ?

-Thomas: Per has always had free hands with the artwork and when he said to me and Toby that this new album cover will feature the band on horses we said of course Per.

  • For you, what is the best part of being in Kamchatka ?

- Thomas: The freedom and the mind set of “anything goes” (musically speaking) and that the doors are always open when we play live towards extending the material and jamming if the audience is in the “zone” with us.

  • Is there ever any doubt about playing music, have you ever thought about doing something else ?

-Thomas: Everything in life has its ups and downs and sometimes I have my doubts, but that usually goes away when I pick up my guitar or when a new song idea pops up in the head. But yes, sometimes it’s hard to keep it all together.

  • Do you have a lot of support from your parents ? Some parents kind of think it's not a real job.

-Thomas: My mom and dad are very supportive and interested in what goes on with what I do and I love them!

  • Do you find the music industry has changed over the years ?

-Thomas: Yes it has of course with the way people consume music these days and that more bands are on tour to make a living.

  • What are your plans after the release of "Long Road Made of Gold" ?

-Thomas: We will play festivals in Europe over the summer and after that we will tour in different ways with the new album both as headline and as support. But we are in the process of planning at the moment, so it’s a bit early to reveal anything yet.

  • Is there anything you would like to add here about the album you want people to know ?

-Thomas: We recorded “Long Road Made Of Gold” in between tours during 2014 and it was mixed and mastered by UK’s finest Russ Russell. I hope you will enjoy listening to this 6th Kamchatka album “LONG ROAD MADE OF GOLD”

Thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview with us at Metaltitans. We wish you much success with your new album.

-Thomas: Thank you guys!! ROCK ON!!
