ENSLAVED UNVEIL NEW ALBUM ARTWORK AND UPCOMING TOUR
'IN TIMES' will be the title of the thirteenth studio album by Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED. Hand-painted artwork is by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth ENSLAVED member” Truls Espedal, who has painted all seven album covers since 2001’s Monumension.
The album will be released on March 6 (Europe) and March 10, 2015 (N. America).
ENSLAVED guitarist & composer Ivar Bjørnson shares the following about the band’s latest creation: “I was so deep into the songs and ideas for such a long time (or have my head so far up my own a**, if you prefer more direct language) that it is hard to have any ‘opinions’ about them that is anything else than the high-flying mumbo-jumbo of the introvert song-smith. The songs are extensions of my inner and outer life, the thoughts I am aware of having, as well as those that lie too deep to register in everyday consciousness. The songs are the resounds of grandiose altered states and mundane tiny micro-events. In addition, they are, of course, also the result of inspiration from other music and art. I do think this new album is the most consistent body of work we have so far: It incorporates our ‘blacker’ past with our influences from prog rock, our present sense of absolute freedom, and the joy of being in this band, if that makes any sense… Ha, ha, ha. It is higher in energy, more aggressive, yet more beautiful and subtle. It simply sounds inspired.”
The track listing for IN TIMES:
1. Thurisaz Dreaming
2. Building With Fire
3. One Thousand Years Of Rain
4. Nauthir Bleeding
5. In Times
The new album’s total running time is fifty-three minutes.
Main recordings for In Times took place at Duper Studios to Solslottet Studio in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings sessions at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by ENSLAVED members Larsen and Ice Dale), and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios. Additional experimentation and sonic exploration was conducted deep in the woods of Valevåg south of Bergen where a mobile studio recorded additional sounds, also where the band recorded the infamous “Thorn” 7 single in 2012.
IN TIMES was produced by band members Ivar Bjørnson, Grutle Kjellson & Herbrand Larsen together with Iver Sandøy. Mixing was completed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.
In support of the new upcoming record, Enslaved has announced dates for an upcoming North American tour with Yob and Ecstatic Vision. Keep your eyes peeled for tickets to be on-sale soon, in the meantime, check out the tour poster below:

JUDAS PRIEST RE-RELEASE
DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH
Coming off an era which saw several Judas Priest albums that have gone down as some of the greatest in the entire history of heavy metal (namely, 1980's 'British Steel' and 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance'), the band from Birmingham knew that their next release had to 'deliver the goods,' to cement their standing as the leaders of metal. And deliver they did, with their platinum-certified 1984 release, 'Defenders of the Faith,' which spawned such headbanging classics as 'Freewheel Burning,' 'Jawbreaker,' 'The Sentinel,' 'Some Heads Are Gonna Roll,' and 'Love Bites.'
And on March 10, 2015, a newly expanded three-CD version of the album will be unleashed via Columbia/Legacy, which includes the original ten-track album remastered by producer Tom Allom, and a complete live recording from the 'Defenders' tour, recorded at the Long Beach Arena in California, on May 5, 1984.
The 21-track concert (split up over two discs) perfectly balances the then-new material from the group's ninth studio offering overall, including such classics as 'Metal Gods,' 'Breaking the Law,' 'Sinner,' 'Electric Eye,' 'The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown),' 'Victim of Changes,' and 'You’ve Got Another Thing Coming,' among many others. As the band states in the liner notes to the reissue, "It's 30 years since we released 'Defenders of the Faith' - we're very proud to say it has become a classic that's beloved by Priest fans throughout the world"
Judas Priest continues to 'defend the faith' to this day, as the group recently issued their seventeenth studio album, 'Redeemer of Souls,' which sees the band's popularity amongst metalheads remain as strong as ever, as it debuted higher than any other previous Priest release (at #6 on the Billboard 200). And on the group's current tour, quite a few classics from 'Defenders' are being performed for the first time in years.
And soon, fans will get a chance to re-experience vintage Judas Priest, with the 'Defenders of the Faith' reissue.

VENOM ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM
VENOM announced the January 27 release of From The Very Depths (Spinefarm Records) last week, news that was met with elation among the metal community, from tastemakers to fans. The metal icons, who are pretty much responsible for authoring their own genre, have followed up the album release news by sharing the two-horns-up album artwork.
The cover is visually arresting, featuring skeletal beings bathed in red and orange tones. The image is dominated by the instantly recognizable VENOM logo, and is a natural successor to the artwork for previous album, 2011's Fallen Angels, also released via Spinefarm.
And to think this is merely the cover! The album's accompanying music slays, and early praise indicates that this could be one VENOM's best releases...ever. Even the album title is 100 per cent 'Venomous', referencing the band's infamous live intro tape.
Screw the holiday season. January 27 can't get here fast enough!

BLIND GUARDIAN RELEASE NEW LYRIC VIDEO
German power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN will release their tenth studio album, "Beyond The Red Mirror", in Europe on January 30, 2015 and in North America on February 3, 2015 via Nuclear Blast.
The lyric video for the first single, "Twilight Of The Gods, can be seen below.
Says BLIND GUARDIAN vocalist and lyricist Hansi Kürsch: "It is impossible for us to choose a song that represents the whole album. 'Twilight Of The Gods' is perfect, because it reveals incredible dynamic and contains great melody lines."
Four and a half years in the making, the follow-up to 2010's "At The Edge Of Time" was recorded at Twilight Hall Studio in Grefrath, Germany and produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (SAXON, HAMMERFALL, HELLOWEEN). The CD showcases BLIND GUARDIAN's collaborative work with three different classical choirs: one from the Czech Republic (Prague), one from Hungary (Budapest), and one from the United States (Boston). Two grand orchestras — each featuring 90 musicians — also lend their brilliant talents to the new recordings with absolutely spellbinding results.

ENSLAVED REVEAL FINAL EPISODE FOR THEIR UPCOMING NEW RECORD
Checking in from Solslottet Studio in Bergen, members of Norwegian progressive extreme metallers Enslaved offer the last installment in their seven-part “Diary of Mad Men” series shedding insight into the band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled thirteenth studio album, set for an early 2015 release.
“…Then it was time for me to do some howling, cursing, screaming and singing again,” contributes ENSLAVED bassist & vocalist Grutle Kjellson. “We moved a few meters from Duper to co-producer Iver Sandøy's own Solslottet Studios and rigged up what we usually do with a set of three microphones: A Shure SM 7B for growls and screams, a RFT CM-7151 (commonly known as "The Leipzig bottle") for chants & whispering etc., and a Neumann UM-57 for clean vocals. We were fortunately lucky with the energy, atmosphere, and my vocal shape the first day, so we were able to lay down my vocal tracks for half of the songs the first day… that is, with the exception some dubbing I usually do on Herbrand [Larsen]'s vocals. It was also time to lay down some tracks with both the Moog Taurus pedals and with one of ENSLAVED treasures that has been with us since 1991 (!): Ivar [Bjørnson]’s Roland SH-1. A great day at work and an ever-growing confidence that this album will destroy everything we have done prior to this.”
Keyboard player & clean vocalist Herbrand Larsen adds: “This album will be rawer and more direct… more in your face!”
Main recordings for the new album are taking place at Duper and Solslottet Studios in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings done at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by ENSLAVED members Larsen and Ice Dale) and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios.
Additional experimentation and sonic exploration will be conducted deep in the woods of Valevåg south of Bergen where the band took a mobile studio to record the infamous ‘Thorn’ 7” single in 2012.
Album number thirteen is being produced by band members Ivar Bjørnson, Grutle Kjellson & HerbrandLarsen together with Iver Sandøy. Mixing will be done by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.
Artwork will be illustrated by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth ENSLAVED member” Truls Espedal, who has painted all seven album covers since 2001’s, Monumension

SHAWN DROVER LEAVES MEGADETH
MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has released the following statement:"After 10 years, I have decided to quit MEGADETH to pursue my own musical interests. "I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire MEGADETH family, as well as thanking all the amazing MEGADETH fans around the world!!! I truly appreciate all of you. "Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey."
During a January 2012 interview with Legendary Rock Interviews, Drover was asked to recount the very unusual story of how he joined MEGADETH. "It was 2004 and my brother Glen was in the band as their guitar player," Shawn said. "They were in rehearsals for their tour and I was in contact with him every day and checking on him and stuff and seeing how things were going.
"The situation just came up where they didn't want Nick [Menza, former drummer] in the band anymore, so I came home and my brother got hold of me and said, You better sit down.' And I was like, 'Why? What's going on?' And Glen was like, 'Well, they want you on the next plane to come out here.' [laughs] This was six days before the first day of the tour, so to be honest with you, that was quite a shock, you know, and I was just like, 'Jesus, man,' because I was well aware of when the tour was starting. So I called my wife and filled her in real quick and I was on a plane bound for Arizona a few hours later to rehearse with the band. We rehearsed for four days, travelled the fifth day, and the sixth day was the first show of the tour.
"It was quite a daunting task, but looking back now, I probably wouldn't want to do it any other way. It was pretty cool and I really didn't have time to freak out or be nervous or anything like that. I was so focused on learning the songs that I didn't know yet, they had just put out 'The System Has Failed' and I hadn't heard a note of it at all because it was just released. I tried to learn and cram as much material as I could in those four days of rehearsal.
"The first show was in front of thousands of kids and was off the hook; it was a great show. It's funny, because for some reason, the barricades weren't up at that venue and the kids were jumping all over the stage and going crazy. I guess nobody remembered to, or whatever, so it turned into an old-school MEGADETH thrash show with kids stagediving and the whole bit, so I thought that was how it was going to be all the time, which was fine by me, you know, because I am definitely from that era. [laughs] Come to find out someone messed up and everyone was like, 'What happened to the barricade?' and I was like, 'Oh, OK….' [laughs] It was pretty funny and I have a lot of fond memories of that time. It was nerve-wracking, of course, but it was so exciting and I was just so focused on learning that it kind of all worked out."
MEGADETH's latest album, 2013's "Super Collider", arrived in stores via mainman Dave Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, distributed by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe)
DRUMMER LEAVES FLOTSAM AND JETSAM
Flotsam And Jetsam regretfully announce that Kelly Smith will be stepping out from behind the drums to focus on caring for his family. Please, extend him you love and support during this time, as we wish nothing but the best for our Flotsam brother.
Kelly was instrumental in bringing Flotsam back to its current form with a touring and festival schedule that, since 2013, saw the band perform live in 15 countries and across the US for more than 80 shows.
Kelly has issued the following personal message to the Flotsam fans: "As of August, my family has suffered the loss of two family members and a third is now in critical condition. With all that has taken place, it has taken me away from the focus of my duties in Flotsam for the foreseeable future.
"In 1982 Flotsam (first as Dredlox, then as Dogz) was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on my parents back patio. Despite all the progress we have made, I am regretfully unable to continue on this journey, as always I only want the best should my comrades continue the good fight. Flotz til Death."
As Kelly departs, Flotsam continues work on a new album that is still scheduled for a spring 2015 release, to coincide with the band's upcoming European tour and festival dates.
Details on the upcoming album and new drummer will be released soon.

ARCH ENEMY HIRES JEFF LOOMIS ON GUITAR
Says Loomis: "I'm very excited to be playing with ARCH ENEMY. "[ARCH ENEMY guitarist] Michael Amott and I have stayed in contact over the years since we toured together when I was playing in NEVERMORE. Not only do I admire his guitar playing and songwriting, but I also consider him a close friend. "The prospect of working with Jeff Loomis moving forward is truly awesome!
"Jeff Loomis is one of the best guitar players in the metal world, in my opinion, as well as being a longtime friend. I look forward to tearing it up on stages around the world together as we continue on the 'War Eternal' touring cycle throughout all next year and beyond!"
ARCH ENEMY played its first show with new singer Alissa White-Gluz on May 23 at Turbohalle in Bucharest, Romania. Angela Gossow, who joined ARCH ENEMY in 2000 and made her debut on the now-classic "Wages Of Sin" (2001), has stepped down as frontwoman and will focus on management, while Alissa takes her place.
ARCH ENEMY's new album, "War Eternal", sold around 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 44. The CD was released on June 10 in North America via Century Media Records. The cover artwork was created by Costin Chioreanu.
BLACK TUSK BASSIST PASSES AWAY
"It is with deep regret and saddened hearts that we must tell you that Athon passed away this morning from injuries sustained from his motorcycle accident. Doctors told us that he suffered irreparable brain damage shortly after the accident. He has been in a coma and sustained by life support until now. As per his wishes, we removed Athon from his life support systems and his organs will be donated. His body will be cremated and a memorial is being planned for family and friends in Savannah. He was 32 years old and will be forever missed. Thank you all for your support during this devastating time for us, it would have made him proud."
PERIPHERY ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
D.C. progmeisters Periphery have announced they will release two new albums on Jan. 27, 2015. ‘Juggernaut: Alpha’ and ‘Juggernaut: Omega’ will be unleashed via Sumerian Records.
“Given the nature and complexity of the ‘Juggernaut’ story, we’ve actually done something different and exciting in regards to the release,” says drummer Matt Halpern. “‘Juggernaut’ is a story that is told through our music, and we want our audience to fully digest the whole experience. Because ‘Juggernaut’ is very detailed and dense in terms of character development, peaks and valleys, climaxes and resolutions we’ve divided the story and music in two, in the form of two separate albums.”
Halpern continues, “‘Juggernaut: Alpha,’ the first part of the story, focuses on the back story and character development, while part two/album two, ‘Juggernaut: Omega,’ focuses on some pretty serious and gut-wrenching events, taking you for a thrill ride along the main character’s complex journey. Although the albums are split in two physically, the story is only complete when the albums are digested consecutively, allowing the listener to recognize and hear the lyrical and musical overlapping themes, foreshadowing, and connected ideas.”
Guitarist Misha Mansoor says, “This is new ground and it’s exciting It’s a way to shake things up. Everyone contributed to everything, even if it wasn’t his instrument. It wasn’t about confrontation. Everyone was focused on creating a really cool album.”
A couple weeks before the album drops, the band will embark on a tour with Nothing More, Wovenwar and Thank You Scientist. It kicks off Jan. 10 in Carrboro, N.C. (dates below). Tickets are on-sale Nov. 7 with VIP packages available simultaneously via Soundrink.com.
“We are ecstatic to be out of the studio and touring on ‘Juggernaut,’” says vocalist Spencer Sotelo. “The band is planning on performing a good amount of tracks from that record on this tour and we are beyond excited to share this experience with all of our fans. It’s going to be a killer tour and we feel very strongly about the diverse line-up of bands that we were able to bring together for this.”

NAPALM DEATH AND VOIVOD ANNOUNCE 2015 TOUR
NAPALM DEATH and VOIVOD will join forces for a North American tour, aptly dubbed "Through Space And Grind", in January/February.
Said NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway: "As a celebration of both the unconventional and more straight-out methods of musical attack, I think this tour lineup really hits home. "To think that 30 years ago I was marveling at the savage eccentricities of 'War And Pain' and now I'm sharing stage / living space with Snake, Away and co... surreal, almost.
"From NAPALM's perspective, we'll bring the overdrive to the spaciness. It's all going to rage whichever way you slice it."
Added VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin: "I am psyched to tour North America with NAPALM DEATH, for which I always had a huge respect. We crossed path over the years and finally we'll get to unite VOIVOD's spacy thrash metal with NAPALM's grindcore. A perfect combination!!"

To celebrate the release of the new album, LORDI will play one of its infrequent domestic shows — the record-release party is set for November 1 at The Circus in Helsinki.
According to LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi, the material on "Scare Force One" is more experimental than before. It's not a theme or concept record, per se, but there is a red thread that runs through all the songs.
Says the singer: "The overall sound of the band is more modern this time, and we've tried out some new tricks here and there. The basic LORDI building blocks are still present however, so there's no shortage of melodic hooks in the songs. The first single, 'Nailed By The Hammer Of Frankenstein', is pretty representative of where the band is right now."
In addition to its sound, the band has also tweaked its outward appearance. The new costumes, designed and built by Mr. Lordi as always, will be debuted at the record release show.
"I wanted to make the band's colour scheme more unified than it has been and I think it worked out quite nicely," Mr. Lordi says. "Hella and Mana have probably changed the most, and with the trip to a hair salon for a new dye job, they're looking great."
LORDI's last two albums were made in Nashville under the watchful eye of legendary producer Michael Wagener (SKID ROW, WARRANT). But this time the band wanted to do it differently and recorded the album with veteran Finnish producer Mikko Karmila.
"We really wanted to make this record in Finland, with a Finnish producer," Mr. Lordi. "We finally managed to get Mikko Karmila to work with us, which is great. He has come up as a potential producer for the band on several previous occasions but now, we've really nailed it. We've definitely had no reason to regret this decision so far and are extremely happy with the album."
LORDI's last CD, "To Beast Or Not To Beast", was released on March 1, 2013 in Europe (excluding Finland) via AFM Records. The CD was made available in North America on March 19, 2013 through The End Records.
