Abbath, High on Fire, Skeletonwitch and Tribulation spearhead metal mag’s ferocious new tour this March.

Over the last four years, Decibel Magazine has redefined what a metal tour can accomplish. Creative and ambitious curation has unified artists from far reaches of the extreme universe who would never have the opportunity to tour North America together. The 2016 Decibel Magazine Tour continues that proud tradition, as Norwegian black metal legend Abbath takes his new band of the same name to war with Bay Area metallic institution High on Fire, Ohio thrash powerhouse Skeletonwitch and Swedish progressive black/death prodigies Tribulation (with regional openers in select markets to be announced soon).

The Decibel Magazine Tour has an impressive history of bringing extreme metal’s most notorious global icons to the stage, boasting headliners such as Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass and At the Gates. This year, Abbath (former frontman of Norwegian black metal legends Immortal) will join that storied legacy to perform songs from not only Immortal’s fabled back catalogue, but brand new music from January’s self-titled debut as the band Abbath, on Season of Mist. It will be Abbath the band’s first tour on North American soil. Presented by Randall Amplifiers, ESP Guitars,, Season of Mist, eOne, Century Media and Prosthetic, the 2016 Decibel Magazine Tour will treat North American audiences to 23 grim and frostbitten dates, boasting a rich array of metal’s most riotous voices.

Of 2016’s four mainstage artists, the two that released new albums in 2015 placed high in Decibel’s notorious Top 40 Albums of the Year list: High on Fire, with seventh full-length Luminiferous, and Tribulation, with third effort The Children of the Night. High on Fire have already been honored with a dB cover and an authoritative Hall of Fame feature on 2002 album Surrounded by Thieves. Skeletonwitch have likewise graced dB’s cover, and their most recent album, 2013’s Serpents Unleashed, also cracked our Top 40. Their original track “Tragedy of Days” was one of the first installments in Decibel’s renowned Flexi Series, also celebrating its fifth birthday. And Tribulation will soon join them, recording a track that will appear in the Flexi Series next year.

While there’s plenty of time to stir up your corpsepaint for the 2016 Decibel Magazine Tour, here’s your chance to score a great deal and avoid standing in line. There will be a number of VIP premium packages available in each market, providing you with a limited edition T-shirt, 18 x 24 tour poster, “Skip the Line” pass, exclusive digital tour issue of Decibel Magazine and a coupon for 15% off a purchase on Indie Merch’s webstore. The price of this package is less than you would spend on a ticket and a tour shirt at the show! General admission tickets now on sale.

With the release of the Nail Them To The Cross single earlier this year, Swedish black metal masters, DARK FUNERAL, are now preparing the release of their next studio album!
Mastermind Lord Ahriman comments:
"Cold winds are blowing over Scandinavia and the winter will arrive very soon. The world is bleak and dark days await. During the past months we have been forging the foundation of what will become the new DARK FUNERAL album. Music and lyrics are falling in place, piece by piece. The actual plan for the release is also slowly taking shape and everything has finally started to move. We aim to hit the studio in early 2016 and to have the actual album in your hands during the first half of the year! More info to follow..."

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL — who were thrust into the headlines on November 13 when a mass shooting at the band's Paris concert left nearly 100 people dead — sat down for an on-camera interview with VICE to speak about the tragedy.
In the clip previewing the chat with VICE founder Shane Smith, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL lead singer Jesse Hughes describes the events that took place at the concert venue Bataclan.

"Several people hid in our dressing room, and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them — except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket," he says. "People were playing dead, and they were so scared."
"A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn't leave their friends," he continues. "So many people put themselves in front of people."
The full video of the VICE interview with EAGLES OF DEATH METAL will premiere next week on
EAGLES OF DEATH METAL on Thursday announced that all of their future shows are on hold and issued their first official statement following the events of November 13, when more than 129 people were killed in seven coordinated terrorist attacks.
The greatest number of deaths took place at the Bataclan, where EAGLES OF DEATH METAL were performing when terrorists began a siege that ended with 89 people in the club either shot to death or killed in explosions.
The attacks in Paris led to a military response by France against the radical Islamic organization ISIS, as French jets bombed a series of targets in Syria.
The attacks have stepped up worldwide concern over ISIS, as well as a debate in the U.S. over whether to accept Syrian refugees.

Satyricon vocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The news was revealed via Satyr’s Instagram account

He writes: “I'm going home. I got extremely sick eight days ago and was rushed to hospital. Scans have shown that there is a blind passenger in my head. Most likely it is benign. I can live with it as long as it does not grow bigger. Removing it is extremely complicated and should only be done if it grows into a size where it is a matter of life and death.

“We all get our set of cards and this happened to be one of mine. There are so many people who have to deal with much worse things than I do, so I do not feel sorry for myself. I have a great family, lots of friends, Satyricon, Wongraven Wines and many people who support my endeavours all over the world.

“I will spend the next two weeks trying to get my strength back, then try to starting writing on the new Satyricon again and pick up where I left on all my wine projects.”

Season of Mist are proud to announce the signing of Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik’s Skuggsjá . The Norwegian band consisting of members from Enslaved and Wardruna represents another gem in the label's treasure chest. These acclaimed musical masterminds will release their debut album early 2016.

SKUGGSJÁ comment:
"When we were asked to write a joined convert piece by the Eidsivablot festival for the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution, we both immediately saw the outline of something massive and important.

"Our performance confirmed that this project should live on, develop and thrive. During 2015 we have performed the piece once more at the Roadburn festival, and have also discreetly slipped in and out of studios around Norway to record what is to become our debut album.

"We are extremely proud of what we will present on this album; and are delighted to be working with the professionals at Season of Mist. It has been quite a journey already for the two of us, but this where it really begins. We have created something that is bigger than its individual parts. Now we are excited to see what the world make out of our creation!"

All things good,
Ivar & Einar

SKUGGSJÁ was conceived as a commissioned musical work written by Ivar Bjørnson and Einar Selvik. The arrangement was performed by ENSLAVED and WARDRUNA as a concert piece in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution at the Eidsivablot festival in Eidsvoll, Norway on September 13th, 2014.

Shortly after this premiere, SKUGGSJÁ was announced as one of the headliners of the 20th edition of Roadburn Festival 2015.

The growing desire to present SKUGGSJÁ to a broader audience has ultimately led Bjørnson and Selvik to record their work in its entirety. The album will be released early 2016. Details regarding this debut release will follow soon.

SKUGGSJÁ translates into ‘mirror’ or ‘reflection’ in the Norse language. This composition not only contextualises the role of extreme music in Norway’s democracy in the year 2014, but also joins threads from the country’s ancient musical history and solidifies the position of metal as Norway`s most important cultural export.

By highlighting ideas, traditions and instruments of their Norse past, SKUGGSJÁ tells the history of Norway and reflects relevant aspects from the past into the present day. In light of they reflect on themselves as a people and nation. In a magnificent tapestry of metal instrumentation, a wide variety of Norway’s and Scandinavia’s oldest instruments as well as poetry in Norse and Norwegian, SKUGGSJÁ is a fusion between past and present, both lyrically and musically.

A trailer for "Fish On", the new video from LINDEMANN, the project featuring vocalist Till Lindemann of German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN and Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN), can be seen below. The song will be released as a single on October 9. It will include the previously unreleased track "G-Spot Michael" as well as the Drago Baotic Smooth Version of "Praise Abort".

Regarding LINDEMANN's plans to perform live, Peter said: "Mainly, it is that we have to see if the promoters are interested in it, and how should we do it? Should we do it huge, or should we do it very small club punk rock? We don't know anything yet. So we're still collecting info from our promoter. He's throwing out some lines here and there to see who is interested and what can we expect, and where will we be on the bill? Will we play in the bar, or in the tent or on the main stage? We need to know these things before we start planning: 'Okay, are we gonna go crazy with the stage, or should we go very small?' It's still a little bit too early to know."
He continued: "I think if it's gonna happen, it's gonna be festivals. That's what I think right now. Everything changes constantly between me and [Till]. So you never know. Maybe tomorrow we're gonna play on the moon. So, we never know. We'll find out… It's better not to say too much until we know for sure. But I hope that we're gonna go out and play."

ABBATH will release a seven-inch single, "Count The Dead", on December 11 via Season Of Mist. The A-side features the title track while the B-side consists of a cover version of the JUDAS PRIEST classic "Riding On The Wind".

"Count The Dead" will be released in two versions, which are both limited to 500 copies worldwide and exclusively available for pre-order through the Season Of Mist shop.
ABBATH's video for the song "Fenrir Hunts" can be seen below. The clip is a live recording of a new ABBATH track, the studio version of which will appear on the group's forthcoming debut album, due in early 2016 via Season Of Mist.

The band states: "We have performed 'Fenrir Hunts' live since our debut concert at Tuska festival in Finland. This led to the decision to record a few live songs properly. With the aid of a camera team, we have recorded three tracks in a live setting at the beginning of September. Along with 'Fenrir Hunts', which you can see today, there will be two cover versions coming up soon. Now, here is 'Fenrir Hunts', the first glimpse from our upcoming debut album!"
The "Fenrir Hunts" video was directed by Fraser West. The song was recorded and mixed by Jamie Ward.
Bass duties for ABBATH are being handled by a man familiar to metal fans across the world — Tom Cato Visnes, more widely known as King Ov Hell and main composer for several GORGOROTH albums as well as his own bands OV HELL, with singer Shagrath from DIMMU BORGIR, and GOD SEED, with exceptional black metal vocalist Gaahl. His fellow GOD SEED member and BORKNAGAR percussionist, Baard Kolstad, has also joined ABBATH on drums.
Abbath announced earlier this year that he was moving forward under his own name.

"I didn't want to go solo in the first place," Abbath told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine. "I wanted the best for IMMORTAL. I didn't want it to end this way. First of all, I just wanted my music out. I wanted to record the [next] album [because] it's been so many years since 'All Shall Fall'. And both Demonaz and Horgh, they have kids and families now, and it just hit that point where I couldn't work the way they wanted to work any more. I wanted things on my terms and they wanted things on their terms, and it was very difficult."
He continued: "I wanted to rehearse at least three times a week, but often it was only once a week and things went so slow. I sat there with all this material, I kept the rehearsal space and recorded the stuff on click track, but it was a very strained atmosphere and the Last time we worked together was in early June last year."
Asked if the decision to part ways and seek out new band members was inevitable, Abbath said: "I was forced to do it this way. I wanted IMMORTAL to continue, but not the way it was. The dialogue has not been there and it's also my mistake. I should have brought up this shit a long time ago, but IMMORTAL, after Demonaz's problems with his arms, it never became a band after that."
He continued: "IMMORTAL is a very special situation. [Demonaz] hasn't been in the band, but then I always wanted to do the best for everybody, to have the band spirit, and that's why when we decided to start IMMORTAL again, we tried to get the spirit back, and bring him on tour, and just share our thing and be a band and have a kick-ass time. But it never worked out. The chemistry wasn't there with the IMMORTAL guys and hadn't been for a while."
Abbath added: "I believe in my music and I believe in my expression, but time flies and we grow apart. Maybe in the future we can go back again, I don't know, but right now I just want to do my thing and just be ABBATH and have people around me who support that."

International rock superstars, Scorpions, continue to celebrate their 50th year in metal with a special one-night national screening event of their first theatrical release, the documentary film, “Forever And A Day,” Wednesday, October 14th.

Presented by SpectiCast and Tempest Films, “Forever And A Day” captures the history of one of the most influential bands in music history – following them for 18 months with an insightful look into the dynamic that has kept them at the top of the metal community.  Filmmaker Katja von Garnier accompanied the Scorpions on their ‘Final Sting’ dates - originally the band’s farewell tour around the globe, from Bangkok via Los Angeles to Moscow, the resulting documentary “Forever and a Day” is a moving portrait of their unique history, packed with candid moments and Scorpions’ memories, culminating with the decision to scrap their retirement plans. Klaus Meine adds, “I think it'll be a really special film for our fans."

The title, “Forever And A Day,” outlines the philosophy Scorpions have internalized since their early days.  In the Eighties of the past century, they wrapped it up in the slogan “Don‘t Stop At The Top” (allegorical: Never rest on your laurels). They simply are travelers, who always seek new challenges, overcoming all obstacles along the way.
Scorpions continue their global assault in support of their 19th studio album, Return to Forever (Sony Music/Legacy Recordings), just released September 11, with North American dates (see below).  For additional info please visit

Founded in Hannover, West Germany in 1965, Scorpions were part of the first wave of metal in the 1970’s with their debut album, Lonesome Crow, released in 1972.  The band rose to arena status with seminal releases Lovedrive, Virgin Killer and Animal Magnetism.  In the 80s, Scorpions amassed a string of Billboard chart toppers from Love at Fiirst Sting and Blackout, including multiple Top 10 singles "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "No One Like You," as well a string of successful singles such as "Send Me an Angel," "Still Loving You" and "Wind of Change." The band was also ranked #46 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and their hit "Rock You Like a Hurricane" also landed as #18 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.  Celebrated across the globe, the iconic rock act have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, and have received multiple honors including World Music Award winners, a postage stamp in Brazil, their Star on Hollywood Rock Walk, Echo honors, most recently they were honored with the Lower Saxon State Award.
Scorpions Return to Forever 50th Anniversary Tour, featuring longtime members Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, alongside James Kottak (drums) and Paweł Mąciwoda (bass), kicked off in May 2015 with dates on four continents. For these milestone shows Scorpions have built a career-spanning setlist of their hits, anthems, ballads and vintage classics.  In September 2015, Scorpions released their 19th studio album, Return To Forever, and embarked on the first leg of their North American tour featuring special guests Queensryche.

"Speed Of Light", the new video from British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN, can be seen below. Written by guitarist Adrian Smith and vocalist Bruce Dickinson, the track is taken from the band's new double album, "The Book Of Souls", due on September 4, 2015 through BMG in the U.S.A. (Parlophone Records in the rest of world).

MAIDEN fans can download the "Speed Of Light" song when pre-ordering "The Book Of Souls" on iTunes. It can also be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.

The "Speed Of Light" video was produced and directed by Llexi Leon with animation and visual effects by The Brewery Production Company. A huge IRON MAIDEN fan, this is Llexi Leon's first music video. Creator of the cult comic book series Eternal Descent — an IP that digitally animated a cast list of metal and hard rock luminaries — Leon has further expanded into the video gaming industry. He chose to collaborate with The Brewery whoss previous film credits include 2010's punk-rock inspired "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" with Andy Serkis, 2012's music festival-themed "Spike Island" with Emilia Clarke, and more recently were providing VFX for the Sky Atlantic biopic on Ian Fleming.

The video is a "homage" to four decades of video gaming juxta-posed alongside IRON MAIDEN's 40 years of incredible visual canon centering on their talisman Eddie as he travels through space and time to complete his Herculean task.

In a recent interview with U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine, IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris was asked if singer Bruce Dickinson's cancer diagnosis at the end of 2014 affected the recording of "The Book Of Souls".

"Well, it didn't at all, because Bruce didn't know and none of us knew anything about… There was no inkling of any of it," Steve said. "He'd finished all his vocal bits completely anyway, and then there were some other bits and pieces we were doing. Really, we didn't know anything — he didn't show any signs at all. I mean, his singing, when you hear it… He's singing better than ever."

He continued: "It didn't cause any problems in that department at all. He wasn't showing any signs of being ill. I didn't even know until a few weeks afterwards, when he got his results back. It was such a shock to him and everybody else, because it just wasn't expected at all."
Bruce Dickinson told the BBC about what he has had to deal with in the past six months: "Well, I've just been through what, actually, a load of people go through every day. I mean, 'cause it's thousands of people in the U.K. and around the world who have treatment for this kind of thing. So, in that respect, the only thing that's special about it is that I'm a quite well-known person, so… But I've been fortunate. I had a really good bounceback. And everybody says, 'Hey, it's gone.' So I'm just getting better now, really — healing up."
Asked how big the tumor was, Dickinson said: "I had two, actually. One was three and a half centimeters — the size of a golf ball. And the other one was two and a half centimeters, and getting a bit bigger. And that was the only symptom — I had a lump in my neck, and that was the second one. So I went to the doc, and they went, 'Oh, that's a bit weird.' [They] took a scan of it, had a look, had a poke around, and went, 'You have head and neck cancer.' So I went, 'That's a bit of a blow' But you get on with it. You crack on and you get on with it. So… that was it."

He continued: "Funnily enough, since I was treated for it, I've met half a dozen people my age who all had exactly the same type of tumor, the same location, all had similar treatments, and they varied in age from 40 to late 60s."

Asked how the treatment has affected his voice, Dickinson said: "Well, I mean, speaking voice-wise, everything is fine. I mean, the whole thing is still healing up, so, you can imagine, to get rid of that with radiation has given it… The inside of my head has been cooked, pretty effectively. So, you know, that will all take a while to heal up and it's coming back. But, I mean, I've got… I can sing, I can talk… I haven't gone out and done the equivalent of trying to run a hundred meters in the same way that I used to sing before. 'Cause let it all calm down. I only finished coming out of treatment two months ago, for God's sake, and the doctor said, 'It'll take a year for you to be better.' Well, we've beaten that by about six months so far, but I'm not gonna try and push things to prove a point. We've got loads of time."

Harris declined to discuss how the rest of MAIDEN coped with Dickinson's diagnosis, telling the magazine: "It's such a personal matter for Bruce and the band that I don't think now is the time to talk about it. It's Bruce's story to tell when he feels the time is right. The one thing I can say is that Bruce is a trooper and more than ready for the next chapter of IRON MAIDEN. What matters now is that we've got an album coming out that I think our fans are going to love and we're all excited to share with them."

"The Book Of Souls" was recorded in Paris, France with producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from the tumor, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album's launch.

The stunning cover art was created by Mark Wilkinson, who has worked with the band previously, and because this 11-track album has a total running time of 92 minutes, it is IRON MAIDEN's first-ever double studio album. There's a broader split on the songwriting compared to previous MAIDEN records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; six of them with MAIDEN's guitarists and one sole composition. This is also the first time since 1984's "Powerslave" that an IRON MAIDEN studio album also features two tracks written solely by Bruce Dickinson, one of which is the longest song MAIDEN has ever recorded! And also two Dickinson/Smith collaborations.
Steve commented: "We approached this album in a different way to how we've recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them, I think. I'm very proud of 'The Book Of Souls', we all are, and we can't wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!"
Bruce continued: "We're really excited about 'The Book Of Souls' and had a fantastic time creating it. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we'd done the 'Brave New World' album back in 2000 so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there! So we immediately felt at home and the ideas just started flowing. By the time we'd finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double its going to be!"
