Review by: Metal Mom
This newest release from the brazilian band Sepultura is a tribute (biography) to themselves, after 26 years of making music and many changes in and out of the band, they are still here in 2011. It’s an intimate and personal look into the band and who they are, definitely not hiding behind any masks. Like everyone’s life is written by choices, your are driven by that choice, you go one way or the other, not about getting old or going back, its about moments that can change everything. The lyrics for Kairos are about the band, their families, relationships with managers, labels, press, the fans, their experiences on the stage and touring the world. This is what they are bringing to you with Kairos. Recording started at the end of 2010 with producer / engineer and mixer Roy Z (Judas Priest, Halford, Iron Maidens Bruce Dickinson, Helloween), master engineer was Maor Appelbaum. The recording took place at the Trama Studios in Brazil. The albums artwork was done by Eric Sayers. This CD is also their very first with Nuclear Blast. Who makes up this metal/hardcore/thrash band?Well, it consists of Andreas Kisser (guitar), Derrick Green (vocals), Jean Do labella (drums), and Paul Jr. (bass) . Each bringing you the best for their 12th studio album with 15 well pulled together tracks. There is a an abundance of different sounds on this CD, ranging from melodic riffs, at times a Rhodes influence, also some heavy riffs appear. Some songs have that old trash raw metal sound. You can hear the heavy aggressive sound, so you can understand why they are called the pioneers of industrial metal. The double bass drumming effect throughout, masterfully done. Their songs are catchy and powerful. The only trouble I had with this CD, the songs that are numbers, I cant get my head around those ones, as they are short, and it sounds like a room with people talking, I would not have put those in there, it takes away from such a fantastic album. But on the other hand, there is one “4648“, that one will knock you on your butt, it starts off the same as the other number songs, but its so much more when the music kicks in, so don’t reject this one because it’s a number as well. Structure Violence starts off with a sort of chant, definitely different but such an interesting track. Each and every song, listen to all of it, each song brings something different from Sepultura. It’s ‘RELENTLESS’. I highly recommend this Sepultura CD ,“Kairos” , and please forget about who was in the band before, Derrick does a supreme job , there is no comparison, if you do compare, well then you are going to loose out on what an impact this will make on you.
