AUGUST 4th 2018

Review By: Metal Mom

Classic Rock greats have returned, and well I was a teen in the 60/70's, so of course I remember well "The Guess Who", they were very popular in Canada. The band became popular in 1969 with the hit “These Eyes”. 1970 brought “American Woman”. They even played for President and Mrs. Nixon and Prince Charles.

I am kind of curious to see what this new album is all about. The band broke up in 1975, and tried to bring it back, didn't quit work out for them at the time. And now they are attempting it once again.

Band Members today are:

Garry Peterson - Drums & Vocals (original)
Leonard Shaw - Keys, Flute, Sax, & Vocals
D# - Lead Vocals, Guitar & Piano
Will E. - Guitar, Harp & Vocals
Rudy Sarzo - Bass & Vocals (formerly Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio, Whitesnake)

Release Date: September 14th via Cleopatra Records in the form of CD, Vinyl and Digital formats).

If you have been following the Guess Who, then you also know they released their first single, "Playin' on the Radio" from their new album.

If you are curious too, after 40 years they used the same recording gear that they used in the 60s and 70s. Some nostalgia there for sure.

Track listing:
1. When We Were Young
2. Runnin’ Blind
3. Talks All The Time
4. Baby Come Around
5. Haunted
6. In America
7. Playin’ On The Radio
8. Give It A Try
9. Good Girl
10. Long Day
Special Guests: The band Jim Kale (Guess Who founding member), Michael Devin (Whitesnake), Brent Fitz (Slash, Gene Simmons), Tommy Shaw (Styx) took part in recording.

I am thrilled to have the honor of getting the chance to review it. So, let's begin shall we, first remember this is 2018, and you will find the music a little different than 'The Guess Who' in the 70's. But not to worry, you are still going to enjoy the powerhouse of this new album. It is still going to transport you to that great old rockin' music. It's very catchy, and well put together, you know, the kind of music that you will feel great listening too and want to learn the lyrics to sing along with. There is a touch of blues, like in "Give It A Try". You will also find very some melodic touches like in "Haunted" which also holds an amazing guitar solo. You can tell that a lot of time and thought went into the making of “THE FUTURE IS WHAT IT USED TO BE”.

Every one of these band members are extremely talented, and you know that what they are doing, is giving us their fans a monumental album for us to enjoy. You are not going to be disappointed at all, sure, I was a little nervous listening to it, after all it was the band I grew up with. I was concerned that maybe they would not have the energy, power to create an album to knock your socks off. But, there was no need to worry, they did it. And exceptionally well, there is a multitude of talented musicians making it happen.  Make sure you give it a listen. You will be hooked and playing it over and over again. Trust me.

On a further note, they have tour dates, so make sure to catch them if they are in a city near you.
