As concerts go this is definitely one of the most entertaining as British rockers The Darkness stormed into Vancouver BC to play the Vogue theatre. I saw The Darkness back in 2016 at another venue and knew they wouldn’t let me down as they put out a completely different show from the last. The band is on a North America tour run in support of there latest album release Pinewood Smiles.

There are some fans who might trash this band but say what you want they are a band that has all the parts needed for a world-beating kick ass rock band. They have the swagger of a band that knows what their fans like and tonight was no exception to the packed house. With two cranked Les Pauls  on the hips, one handled by lead singer Justin Hawkins, the other by his brother Dan, Frankie Poullain on  bass and on the skins Rufus Tiger Taylor the boys kicked into high gear with "Open Fire" off of Last of Our Kind. As far as set lists go it’s was pretty near perfect – 18 tracks in total from songs like Black Shuck, All the Pretty Girls and Stuck in a Rut the set-list comprised of a good mix of styles new and old.

The guys on stage were very humble and appreciative of the support they saw in Vancouver; and played puppet master with the fever pitch in the crowd. If Hawkins called for claps, the crowd gave them thunder. But while the lyrics and band members have grown up, the gimmicks and banter with hawkins and the crowd was quite playful and damn right funny.

I know for a fact that rock ’n’ roll is not dead and you have a band that is heroically dedicated to Seventies-vogue and turning up the amps to 11 and not giving a shit...well done!!
