MAY 29th, 2014

"Festival season is upon us, and you know what that means. Vans Warped Tour is back this summer in full force for their mid-June to mid-August run.  This year isn’t your typical year though for the tour, it’s the 20th anniversary.

The tour has hosted countless acts over the years ranging from pop-punk, electronic, Rap, hip hop, metal, pop and all of the sub-genres that come with it.  Warped Tour has grown from a very limited number of bands and shows to well over 100 bands per tour. Even though we live in North America, we aren’t the only ones that get to experience Warped. Australia saw the tour return last year for the first time in a long while and Europe gets their own tour that started up in 2012.

Hundreds of thousands of kids, teenagers and young adults flock to Warped Tour every summer, braving the occasionally extreme weather conditions to hear their favorite bands play. For some of the bands it’s their first time playing the US or the first time playing songs off of their newest album.  There is something special about attending a day (or multiple dates) at Warped. The sun shining, thick crowds of fans all there for the same reason and merch tents as far as the eye can see.  Sounds like a little bit of insanity but who cares? It’s the first chance of the summer to go out and have fun.

If it’s your first time attending Warped Tour you’ll probably be a little scattered. Go hunting for information before your show. That saved me the first year I went. Know who you want to see and who you want to meet. There is only so much you can do in a day and no possible way to take it all in.  The venues are usually huge, plus navigating the merch and sponsor tents should be classified as an Olympic sport at times. This year will mark my seventh time attending Warped Tour and if I could tell past me what I know now, my first Warped experiences would have been way different.  The shows often involve sunburns, crowd surfing, mosh pits, more free stuff than anyone could possibly carry, some people running around frantically trying to get wristbands for signings or simply running to a stage to see the band they’ve wanted to see forever, and huge smiles on every single persons face.

The line up for Warped Tour changes every year and has turned into a record label showcase. That being said, this year is looking incredibly promising. You’ve got everything from fan favourites to Warped veterans. Notable acts this summer include For Today, Motionless In White, Born Of Osiris, Every Time I Die, The Ghost Inside and newcomers Beartooth fronted by former Attack Attack! vocalist, Caleb Shomo.  As always there is more variety here than anyone could ask for and fans of nearly every genre will find more than a few acts to see out on the road.

Whether you’ve been saving up for months, counting down the days/minutes/seconds until the show or simply bought your ticket at the door, Warped Tour is a day like no other.

The US/Canadian run kicks off June 11th in Anchorage, AK and continues on until August 3rd in Denver, CO."
