Doom trio YOB have unleashed ‘Clearing The Path To Ascend‘, superb achievement for them. Rising from Eugene, Oregon to clearly leave a mark on your soul. What you can expect to hear is epic, despairingly doom, and after listening, it’s obvious that YOB don’t follow the norm for the doom genre. Especially when you consider there are only 4 songs, and yet it’s 62 minutes long.  Psychedelic rock, stoner rock, stoner metal, blues metal, ambient all on just 4 tracks, pretty impressive.

I am not much of a fan of doom, as it has always been much more of a stoner sound, and that’s fine, but I found this album so much more appealing. When you put the CD on , you do need to sit back, and just take in all in, absorb it, enjoy the talent behind it. You will notice what first awakens your mind, is vocalist Mike Scheidt’s demon wail, followed by fierce guitars. Bassist Aaron and drummer Travis handle the larger majority of what gives us that dominating sound, but it’s Scheidt’s singing that drives home the band’s zeroed in energy.

Unique in their own right, to be able to put so many genres together to give YOB their own sound. That takes talent. I enjoyed this, and I am sure that you will too.
