I first came across Lord of the Lost quite a while ago. Their frontman, Chris Harms, had a guest appearance in Mono Inc song "Children of the Dark" alongside Tilo Wolff and Joachim Witt. And then Youtube suggested the "In Silence" video for me - it was a nice video and the song was indeed good, with some heavier vocals. I started digging and got hooked pretty quickly. And sure enough I wanted to see the band live. Unfortunately german gothic bands don't play in Oslo very often, so when the concert at John Dee was announced I was quite thrilled.

This evening there was only one opening band (not a common case these days when many gigs have two or even 3 opening acts - too many if you ask me). Ad Infinitum, Swiss symphonic metal band, with a strong female lead of Melissa Bonny. I saw them live about a year ago opening for Eluveitie in Oslo and it was good.

This time around the band gave an equally strong, energetic performance playing a versatile setlist opening with "Upside Down". I'd be honest - this is not my kind of music, yet I can certainly appreciate the great quality and strength of Melissa's voice. The audience surely liked it and everyone was ready to party at Lord of the Lost's set.

Lord of the Lost changed direction quite a bit since I first came across their music, therefore I wasn't particularly sure what to expect. An attempt at Eurovision in 2023 changed both the image and the music and recently came all those numerous collabs - none of that is my cup of tea, I still like the old stuff.

Despite always having advanced production in their videos, the band's live shows are quite minimalistic. But the amount of energy they put into their performance surely compensates for the lack of decorations and deserves recognition. From the very first notes Chris owns the stage, his voice is powerful and every move fits the mood of the music. I would even say - this level can compete with many performances of much heavier bands.

The setlist is positively long (22 songs) and versatile, giving a good overview of the band’s work starting from older hits and up to some most recent songs from OPVS NOIR Vol. 3 that was released this year. “Kill the Lights”, “My Funeral" and "I'll Sleep When You're Dead” had a live debut, “Epiphany" hasn't been played live since 2019 alongside with a few other songs that were special on this tour’s setlist.

Of course there were still some songs that I wish were not left out, like “Raining Stars”, “In Silence” or “Six Feet Underground” - but I guess one can’t have it all. I was still happy with the setlist we got.

One thing that still puzzles me is what Chris Harms wrote on his instagram - that this might be the last concert in Norway. Not sure if it was just to bump up the ticket sales for this gig or what it was, but I hope this will not be the case. And I hope next time it will be a bigger stage - Lord Of The Lost truly deserve it.
