PATHOS & LOGOS: CULT EP

Review by: Ruben Mosqueda

Pathos & Logos are unlike anything I have heard before. The band plays progressive, instrumental music that is powerful and bombastic. The band is composed of guitarist Kyle Neeley and drummer Paul Christiansen, the duo have worked together in the past in other acts. While the ‘White Stripes’ duo thing is relegated to ‘hipster’ type acts, this Colorado based band will have you forget about their minimalist approach to this band thing. Pathos & Logos’ new EP titled  ‘Cult’ is set for release on June 24th, 2022.

Pathos & Logos made a stir since their formation in 2018. Their debut recording ‘Glory To The Order’ [2020] created a buzz for them nationwide and abroad. With the release of ‘Cult’ they hope to pick up the momentum where they left off with  ‘Glory To The Order.’ There’s a recurring theme within the album. It could be a concept album. I’m not well versed in Magick or sorcery or any of that stuff. The ‘theme’ goes well beyond my scope of that type of stuff. Having said that, I know when something is good, because it moves me, it gets my attention and has me taking in every musical note. That’s just what happened when I started listening to ‘Cult,’ I could listen to it in the car, while going out on a job or as ambient music playing in the background while I bang away on widgets at work. The music has a lot of melody to it, which is what makes the collection of tunes so endearing. There’s extreme metal tendencies, progressive shifts and changes, which keeps the listener on the edge of their seat. It’s incredibly good and a complete surprise. I was expecting something that sounded like Blackmore’s Night! Thankfully it wasn’t. I’d love to know why they don’t have a bass player? It would add another dynamic to this stellar music. I’d love to get more educated on the backstory, concept and theme of this album. The music is memorable, ‘wankery free’ and worthy of your attention.
